tipitty toeing on life, looking for takers!

greetings reader(s)!
we somewhat fill our lives with lots of music these days. you start the day with some sort of music, lusic then follows wherever we go, be it in the car, in school, at the market, even in the lavatory. but how much have they changed the quality of life around us?
we normally listen to music through the means of electronic mediums, gadgets which are getting so technologically advanced these days that they make the music work these days. they even are taking over the mantle from the traditional, you know, conservative classical (read b-o-r-i-n-g to the feng tau people!), i bet in a couple of grammy’s time, there will be an award for ‘the most outstanding electronic classical musical performance of the year’, read out by some techno jock like me. hehehehehe.
the electronic revolution really made a difference to the music world. just like how electricity sorta electrified the whole world into a change boom, electronics have enhanced music so much so just plain electronics alone without any musical intsruments can be made into music. a purists’ nightmare, but a romaticists’ dream come true. finnaly, music without the strings attached. literally.
a major catalyst of the electronic revolution would be the advent of the television and then later on, its notoriously popular first cousin, the video. once regarded as a marvel of entertainment science, the video has now been elevated as a deciding factor in music popularity and chart positions. it was once a showpiece of cheesy acting, with dollops of colours that will make your eyes tears, so called special effects, only saving grace would be the music alone. nowadays, the videos are slick, studio produced cash cows that can determine an artist’s path to fame, and also the occasional entry into a b grade movie.
so, why the fuss about video being the one who killed the radio? well, the video boom did surpress the evolution of the radio, but seriously, the radio was once a musical juke box, with music played by music loving people or musicians themselves. this time round, the djs sound as if they are piad by the advertisers, the more they pay them, the better show they put up with. but with a few exceptions, the radio survived. now, the masses are flocking back to the radio. why?
videos are heading towards a plateau now. its the same ol formulae, catchy beat, girls, explosions, girls, fast cars, girls in skimpy clothes, fights, girls in almost no clothes, bare chested men….the list goes on. although i admit being at times better off watching videos, but its repetativeness is what that will bring this once king-of-the-industry to a virtual standstill. people now see the stereotypeness of this medium. and hey, these videos can do loads of ehem, bodily injuries. kids take these videos to heart, play them out, and wallah, you get the paeds ward full of 50-cent wannabes trying to shoot down the gangsta.
radio, in the other hand, is either sticking to it original plans, or slowly crawling back to its grassroots. in either way, the radio, the original infotainment channel, will retain its position into the heart of the masses.
who sang ‘video killed the radio star’? find him…and ask him now to sing….
‘radio killed the video star’!
hehehehe
cheers!
yours truly,
plain joe
