as i lay now, grass bed so soft
i look back, yesterday once more
life, spectacular, bountiful
before the turbulence
the tempest of greed
now dearly slipping away
slowly, infront of me
i hear birds chirping
wonder what they would sing for me?
now? i ask for none
but continue to sing
for others have lives ahead of them
green grass and dew drops
the last i would feel now
end is nigh, sorrowful i’m not
for the land which i fought for
now greets me with open arms
i’ve held your glory, pride, and name
bring me back home, with all your love
o green grass, my motherland’s lap
now, i pray, for none to happen
future, it seems, shines like at dawn
i pray, someday
birds to continue singing,
dew to keep falling
green grass to carress the young ones
before the sun sets
bring me home
home is where i now belong
back to your loving embrace,
and children will play again
on these meadows
of soft green grass again
-this is dedicated to all those who’ve fought for our freedom, and may you continue to watch us over as we approach another year of independence-
